Former Ohio Pastor And ‘American Idol’ Contestant Charged In Wife’s Murder

A former Ohio worship pastor and “American Idol” contestant has been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife.

Police arrested Caleb Flynn, 39, on Feb. 19, three days after responding to a burglary call at his suburban Dayton home and finding his wife Ashley Flynn, 37, shot dead.

Caleb Flynn has been charged with murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

Caleb Flynn appeared on the 12th season of American Idol in 2013. During an interview on the show, he spoke glowingly of his spouse.

“I love my wife more than anything,” Caleb Flynn said. “She is very, very, pretty. I just love her. I’m just a normal person who absolutely loves to sing more than anything in the world.”

He also compared his wife to his favorite “American Idol” contestant, Carrie Underwood.

“I promise you, if my wife dyed her hair blonde, she would look just like her,” he said.

Flynn led worship at Christian Life Center in Dayton, Ohio, according to The Independent. The Roys Report reached out to Christian Life Center but did not receive a response as of publication.

Flynn previously worked as a worship pastor at Free Chapel in Spartanburg, S.C., according to his LinkedIn profile.

Authorities responded to the couple’s home in Tipp City, 15 miles north of Dayton, at 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 16. Police found signs of forced entry and discovered Ashley Flynn with two gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ashley Flynn worked as a substitute teacher and volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School in Tipp City. The school district shared condolences to her friends and family on Facebook.

“She was known for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many — both in and out of the classroom and on the court,” the post said. “Our thoughts are with all who are grieving during this difficult time.”

Christian Life Center Pastor Jordan Hanson described Ashley Flynn in a Facebook post as a devoted servant of Jesus, wife and mom who fulfilled her roles with “grace, devotion, and unconditional love.”

“Please pray for her husband and two daughters and extended family left behind,” Hanson wrote. “Please pray for (the) ongoing investigation. Please pray for God’s very Presence to bring comfort to an unfathomable situation.”

Caleb Flynn pleaded not guilty at an arraignment Feb. 20, according to WDTN-TV Ch. 2, an NBC affiliate in Dayton. His bond was set at $2 million.

His next court appearance is Feb. 26.
