Churches Working With Relief Organizations To Help Areas Hit By Hurricane Helene

Churches of Christ and their associated relief organizations are beginning to send aid throughout the Southeast as damage and needs are assessed after Hurricane Helene.

The storm, which made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane, left a wide swath of destruction from storm surge, wind, landslides and flooding through Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee. There have been at least 121 reported deaths.

Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, based in Nashville, Tenn., is working to deliver supplies through the Cedar Key Church of Christ and Lake City Church of Christ in Florida, as well as the Lakeland Church of Christ in Georgia and Forrest Park Church of Christ in Valdosta, Ga.

The relief organization expects to receive additional requests and is asking for volunteers to pack food boxes at 10 a.m. Tuesday at  its warehouse on 410 Allied Drive in Nashville.

Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team, based in Tipp City, Ohio, is also working with the Forrest Park church and the Newsome Street Church of Christ in Hahira, Ga.

The team is currently accepting registration on its website for volunteers and for disaster relief coordinators who can commit to spending several weeks onsite.

Disaster Assistance CoC, based in Lake Jackson, Texas, set up a mobile headquarters serving meals in Perry, Fla., over the weekend but is moving into Augusta, Ga., where it will be working with the Central Church of Christ.

One Kingdom, a ministry of the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, La., is working with churches in Swannanoa and Hendersonville, N.C.

The organization is accepting donations to send relief funds to those areas.

The South Gate Church of Christ in Columbia, Tenn., is sending a disaster response team to Newport, Tenn., with 1,600 meals and is accepting donations for additional support.
